Welsh Ride Thing 2013
I’ve been talked into doing something again! This time it’s a weekend “bike-packing” around Wales. I’ve got my brother to thank this time and weather permitting we should have a really good weekend riding through the Welsh countryside.
Closer to the time I’ll put up a map showing our
I’m trying to raise a little bit of money for UNICEF, who are one of the largest organisations helping children around the world and back at home, here in the U.K get the support they need.

Movermber 2012 — Done.
A big thank you to everyone who donated online to my Movember page and also those from my local area who gave so generously to collection boxes - this time round my upper lip hair helped raise over £160!
Remember it’s never too late to donate to Movember — so if a sudden burst of Christmas spirited generosity has sprinkled over your wallet head over to http://mobro.co/mainwood to donate!
Until next year happy Mo.
Bike Around Brands - The Charity Fundraser
This Friday (17th August 2012) I’ll be participating in the anual “Bike Around Brands" charity cycle event.
The evening event is run by the Swanley & North Downs Lions and is open to all. If you’re in the area on Friday evening it’s definitely worth popping along and putting in a couple of laps around the famous Kent circuit.
Finally, if you’re feeling generous it would be great if you’d sponsor me for the event, contact me if you’d like to. All proceeds will go to Ellenor Lions Hospices including the children and young people’s service, chYps.
Here’s a selection of photos I took at Circuit de Catalunya between 01/03/12 and 04/03/12 of the final Formula One test before the 2012 season begins in Australia in just two weeks time.
A quick note…
Just a quick post appologising for not posting too much on this website recently.
I’ve still got a load of photos from Japan that I need to sort out and get uploaded, unfortunately though I never seem to find the time to properly sit down for a couple of hours and get some albums put together!
Thought I’d give a quick update about what’s happening over the next couple of weeks though.
Tomorrow and Sunday I’ll be at Brands Hatch then I’ll be heading down to Southampton with the boys from Out Side Room where they’ll be playing two gigs at Southampton Solent University and also at Southampton Joiners. If you’d like more information then check out their website or facebook page. They’ve also just had their first EP released on iTunes - well worth a listen!
The following week I’ve got an important visit to Silverstone (which I’m pretty excited about) then the next day I’m flying to Barcelona for four days for the FOTA forum and 2 days at the Formula One test at Circuit de Catalunya. I know quite a few people follow me on Twitter now @GPmainwood and I’ll certainly be tweeting from the forum and also from the test.
Look forward to posting on here again soon.
Hiroshima, Japan :: Atomic Dome, Peace Park, Cenotaph, Atomic Museum
I had a truly moving and life changing experience when I visited this industrial city in Japan.
At 8:15 A.M. on August 6 1945 Little Boy, an American Atomic bomb detonated above Hiroshima. Instantly killing around 45,000 people with up to 160,000 people dead within 3 months.
The total number dead will never be known.
The Atomic bomb attack of 1945 is remembered today by the City of Hiroshima through the beautiful Peace Park - comprising of the Atomic Dome (bomb detonated almost directly above this building meaning the building remained relatively intact - all inside the building were killed), Peace Museum, Cenotaph, Children’s Cenotaph and finally a quite park area.
A truly remarkable City, quite literally rebuilt from the ground up.
Hiroshima, Japan :: Mazda - Factory Tour
I was lucky enough to have a guided tour of the Mazda Production Centre in Hiroshima recently.
Having been to the production line in Maranello earlier in the year it was interesting to see the difference in production techniques between mass produced family vehicle at Mazda and the hand crafted masterpieces from the V8 and V12 production lines at Ferrari.
Mazda was a special place though, humans worked in harmony with machines to efficiently produce around 800,000 cars a year for distribution around the world.
Mazda didn’t allow photos on the production line but these photos are from the museum.
